MATHCOUNTS

MATHCOUNTS is a coaching and competition program that brings to math achievement the same enthusiasm and prestige now enjoyed by athletics.  Students are called “mathletes" and are rewarded for winning competitions at the school, area, state and national levels. 

 The objectives of MATHCOUNTS are:

  • To elevate the prestige associated with achievement in mathematics among seventh and eighth grade students, 
  • to increase awareness of the importance of mathematics among parents, educators and the general public; and,
  • To bring about improvements in mathematics curricula and instruction.

Each fall junior high schools receive MATHCOUNTS kits which include program information and competition materials. Math teachers use the kit to enhance their classes and make learning math exciting and meaningful.  In January teachers conduct a school MATHCOUNTS competition.  Winners progress through five chapter competitions in February and the Connecticut state competitions in March  and then to the national competition held each spring in Washington, D.C.

Engineers who would like to volunteer to coach a MATHCOUNTS team or help with the chapter or state competitions, send an email to info@ctspe.net.

Contributions for MATHCOUNTS:

Your contributions are needed to offset the cost of running this important program. Please send your contributions to the Connecticut Engineers Education Foundation, an IRS 501(c)(3) charity established by CSPE to fund this program. Send your check to CEEF, 460 Smith St, Suite K, Middletown CT 06457. Please indicate if you wish to designate your contribution for one of the chapter competitions. Otherwise the contribution will be used for the overall cost of running the competitions. Thank you.
